Peji took five years to complete and reflects the diversity of the musical universe researched by Gilú Amaral, founding member of Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda. With its roots in the city of Olinda and influenced by the sounds of Candomblé and the rhythms of Pernambuco’s popular culture, the artist created from a very early age a strong connection with the drumming that sounds all year long on the slopes of the city’s historic site. “I wanted to bring to Peji some of my nature of exploring various languages, a mishmash of things that I live every day, although it features some elements that unify the record, such as the distorted pedaled guitar, bass and percussion, which is obviously the highlight of all work.”
